Description

Radiology Associates of San Luis Obispo is a physician-owned and physician-operated group serving as the dominant radiology provider on California's Central Coast. We are not owned by private equity, a national staffing firm, or a health system. Every decision about how we practice, who we hire, and how we compensate our physicians is made by the radiologists who do the work. That independence has held for decades and it is what we most intend to protect.

We hold professional services contracts at five local hospitals, own and operate three independent outpatient imaging centers, and provide professional services at six additional outpatient sites. Our radiologists read across the full complement of diagnostic radiology and perform a wide range of interventional procedures. Subspecialty-trained radiologists find plenty of work in their area of expertise while retaining the variety that keeps general practice interesting. We have also built our own reporting and workflow tools in house, designed by our radiologists around how we actually read, and they measurably increase throughput without adding clicks or friction to the day.

We have one or two full-time staff positions open. Physicians are paid on a daily rate with RVU-based bonuses. Associate-year compensation is in the range of $500,000 with eight weeks of vacation, both negotiable. The track to full partnership is one year, and last year our partners' total compensation ranged from $900,000 to $1.4 million depending on days worked. We also provide a 401(k), fully covered malpractice with tail, a CME allowance, a moving stipend, and a signing bonus.

Call is shared equally. Overnight teleradiology coverage runs from a start time between 10 p.m. and midnight through 7 a.m. Evening shifts are divided equally among the partners and associates, with no one carrying a disproportionate share, and weekend coverage runs approximately one in six. Hybrid and remote arrangements will be entertained for the right candidates.  We have the scheduling and workflow infrastructure to keep distributed readers connected to the group rather than isolated from it.

San Luis Obispo County offers what many radiologists spend a career trying to find. The coastline runs from Pismo Beach to Cambria, the wine country of Paso Robles and Edna Valley is in our backyard, and the weather is close to perfect year round. It never snows, we have no mosquitoes when the sun goes down!  Our public schools are excellent, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo anchors an educated and active community, and many outstanding universities are within easy driving distance for families thinking ahead. Traffic is minimal, nothing like LA or SF, and our quality of life is difficult to match anywhere in California.

If you are a BC/BE diagnostic or interventional radiologist looking for real ownership, colleagues who answer to each other rather than to shareholders, and a practice that will still be independent in twenty years, we would like to hear from you. Please reach out directly to tauran@ra-slo.com with a CV and a brief note about what you are looking for. Fellows finishing in 2027 / 2028 are welcome to inquire.
