The Opportunity
The Associate Vice President (AVP), Operations is a direct reporting member of the specialty physician leadership team having responsibility to assist with operational oversight of clinical, cultural, contractual, and specialty financial performance. They will oversee Regional Directors (RDs) and may function as an RD and/or Medical Director (MD) when necessary. The AVP will work in tandem with Vituity Growth Leadership and the Division Leadership Team (DLT) to coordinate and align the strategy to successfully close new partnerships with hospitals, hospital systems, and mergers with other physician groups.
Culture & Leadership
- Champion Vituity's mission, values, culture, and democratic partnership principles across all practices, with added focus on cultural integration at new and existing sites.
- Ensure physicians understand their fiduciary obligations as Vituity partners.
- Recruit, mentor, and coach RDs and MDs, and help select new MDs alongside RDs.
- Provide managerial oversight, performance evaluation, and mentorship structure for RDs/MDs, in partnership with the Specialty VP.
- Step in as RD/MD as needed, including for practice startups and clinical coverage (compensated at practice rate).
Operations & Quality
- Partner with the Specialty VP and Business Director to develop and execute the specialty's operations strategy.
- Support RDs/MDs in identifying and resolving operational and financial issues — staffing, patient flow, coding, documentation, compliance, and productivity.
- Advise practice leadership to ensure all sites deliver the highest quality of care.
- Identify opportunities for specialty integration to improve care quality and efficiency across the acute care continuum.
- Meet regularly with RDs/MDs, monitor high-risk and new practices monthly, and intervene on client/staff conflicts as needed.
Growth & Contracting
- Partner with Specialty and Growth VPs to establish contract terms, assess operational fit, and negotiate new and renewing contracts.
- Identify contracting opportunities within each division and support existing-contract negotiations with RDs.
- Lead new contract start-ups and facilitate smooth transitions from Business Development to Operations.
- Participate in acquisitions, mergers, and RFP efforts, including presentations and practice visits.
- Build and lead relationships with C-level health system executives and physician group leadership; travel as needed.
Financial Performance
- Review monthly practice performance reports and correct issues as assigned by the Specialty VP.
- Advise RDs/MDs to optimize practice management and achieve profitability targets.
- Partner with RDs/MDs to resolve problem-payer and financial issues.
- Monitor practice contributions and organizational subsidies under their supervision.
- Support managed care contract negotiations affecting supervised practices/regions.
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with credentialing, provider enrollment, scheduling, and recruitment standards.
- Ensure alignment with Board policy and executive leadership direction across the specialty.
- Act as liaison for legal, financial, billing, liability, and management services matters.
- Serve as Vituity's spokesperson for the specialty.
Required Experience and Competencies
- Licensed physician as a Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) required.
- ABR required.
- Maintain membership and privileges on Hospital’s medical staff and comply with and abide by the bylaws, rules and regulations, and the policies and procedures of Hospital’s medical staff where services are being required.
- Medical group clinical work and management experience required.
- Extensive administrative and leadership experience required.
- Experience as a Regional Director or above preferred.
- Demonstrated superior clinical skills to serve as a role model by setting high standards.
- Demonstrated superior operational management.
- Extensive knowledge of medical group finances and operations; ability to interpret complex financial data with an understanding related to specialty management.
- Demonstrated skills in negotiation and financial and contract analysis.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to resolve disputes.
- Ability to travel based on business needs.
- Deep understanding of radiology technology including but not limited to PACS, DICOM routers, RIS, and reporting solutions.
